Beyond Chocolate
Looking Beyond Chocolate
Our work began with chocolate, but little by little, it has taken us beyond it.
The possibilities of cacao. The people we've met. The act of making things. And the kind of small family business we want to be.
The phrase “Beyond Chocolate” grew out of the questions we've continued to ask ourselves.
Continuing to Ask Questions
When we're making something, we often find ourselves asking, “Could there be another way?” rather than simply accepting, “That's just how it's done.”
Sometimes things work out, and sometimes they don't turn out as we'd hoped. We try something, look into what went wrong, and try again. Along the way, that process has led to new products and new connections with people.
Beyond What We Make
Making things is about more than finishing a product.
Where we source our ingredients, who we work with, what we change and what we choose to keep the same. We see all these small decisions as part of making things, too.
The same goes for running a business. It's not just what we make, but how we work, the people we connect with, and the choices we make along the way. Little by little, these things have shaped nicao into what it is today.
No Single Answer
There is no single answer to what “Beyond Chocolate” means.
Exploring new ways to use cacao. Building a long-term relationship with one farm. Donating part of our revenue to environmental causes. Thinking about who we work with, and how.
These may seem like separate things, but to us they're all part of the same ongoing question.
And we think we'll keep finding more answers along the way.
